Our Story

 Our Story

I came to Tupelo by what seemed to be chance.   I am the oldest of six children born into a broken family.  My story changed when I was adopted into a loving family at 12 years of age. As a teenager I realized God was using my story to help people.

After graduating from Itawamba Community College in 1997, I attended Christian Life College in Stockton, CA and graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in Theology.

My wife Kamala grew up as a missionary kid in Pakistan. Together we traveled in North America and internationally. We loved traveling and enjoyed meeting a variety of people, but there was a desire in us to put down roots. We wanted to see lives changed.

In 2015 we returned to Tupelo with our family, Oliver (9), Kate (5) and Morgan (1) to answer the call of God and plant the Sycamore Church.  We exist to help people see and follow Jesus, and ultimately to live, love and lead like Jesus.

I believe you have a story too that God wants to use to help others.

Beliefs

At Our Core

The Sycamore Church is a life-giving church!  To define that a little more, we speak God's best to people's lives.  All of us have faults but given the opportunity to hear what God can do in us gives us possibility.  The Sycamore Church is about giving possibility to people by speaking God's best to them.

We believe the Gospel of Jesus saves.  It's in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus that we find the template for salvation through repentance, baptism and the filling of His Spirit.  It's our belief in Jesus and what He's accomplished that we have the power to be part of the family of God.

We are convinced if you come to know Jesus  your life will never be the same.    There is no way you can encounter Him and leave the same way.

We are thankful for the opportunity of repentance.  It's a decision to turn from our ways and choosing to do things God's way.  Repentance is the acknowledgement of our sin and our need for Jesus.

Baptism is the act of faith that Jesus has washed away our sins.  We don't see our sins floating in the water but it is an act in the body that performs a profound spiritual transaction giving us the power to approach God with a clear conscience. (I Peter 3:21

We believe  God's Spirit comes to dwell in the lives of believers, allowing us to be part of the family of God and overcome sin. The Holy Spirit is a comforter, teacher, and keeper to those who have received Him.  We rely on the leading of God's spirit as believers to do His will and bless the world around us.  We are born again by the baptism of water and the spirit.

(John 3:1-5)

Our lives were meant to be lived with passionate purpose.  That purpose was put in you by God.  Our hope is that you discover your purpose and put it to use for the glory of God, a blessing for others and the empowerment of yourself. (Ephesians 2:10)

We believe  Jesus is returning for the church.  This great event is the Second coming of Christ and is the hope we as believers have to look forward to.
