Our Story

I came to Tupelo by what seemed to be chance.   I am the oldest of six children and as part of a large family our problems were even larger.  However, my story changed when I was adopted into a loving family at the age of 12.  As a teenager I realized God was using my story to help others who have suffered from a broken home.

After graduating from Itawamba Community College in 1997, I attended Christian Life College in Stockton, CA and graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in Theology.

I met my wife, Kamala at college in 2000. I was studying while she, on the other hand, was looking for the man of her dreams... me! By the way, her beautiful name means, water buffalo...not really, it means water lily. As romance would have it, we got married in 2002 and began ministering throughout North America and internationally. Since Kamala was raised in Pakistan as a missionary child she was accustomed to ministry and the calling it requires. We love traveling and meeting a variety of people, but there was a desire in us to put down roots and see lives changed through deep relationship.

In 2015 we returned to Tupelo with our family, Oliver (9), Kate (5) and Morgan (1) to answer the call of God and plant the Sycamore Church. The Sycamore Church thrives on helping people see Jesus, and ultimately to live, love and lead like Him.

I believe you also have a story that God wants to use to help others. We want to hear it.

Our Core

The Sycamore Church is a life-giving church!  To define that a little more, we speak God's best to people's lives.  We all have weaknesses but given the opportunity to hear what God can do in us gives us hope.  The Sycamore Church is about giving possibility to people by speaking God's best to them.

We believe the Gospel of Jesus saves.  It's in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus that we find the template for salvation through repentance, baptism and the filling of His Spirit.  It's our belief in Jesus and what He has accomplished that we have the power to be part of the family of God.

We are convinced that if you come to know Jesus  your life will never be the same.    There is no way you can encounter Him and leave unchanged.

We are thankful for the opportunity of repentance.  It's a decision to turn from our ways and choosing to do things God's way.  Repentance is the acknowledgement of our sin and our need for Jesus.

Baptism is the act of faith that Jesus has washed away our sins.  We don't see our sins floating in the water but it is an act in the body that performs a profound spiritual transaction giving us the power to approach God with a clear conscience. (I Peter 3:21)

We believe  God's Spirit comes to dwell in the lives of believers, allowing us to be part of the family of God and overcome sin. The Holy Spirit is a comforter, teacher, and keeper to those who have received Him.  We rely on the leading of God's spirit as believers to do His will and bless the world around us.  We are born again by the baptism of water and the spirit.

(John 3:1-5)

We believe marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one man and one woman, instituted by and publicly entered into before God.

(Matthew 19:4-6).

Our lives are meant to be lived with passionate purpose.  That purpose was put in us by God.  Our hope is that you discover your purpose, use it for the glory of God,  bless  others and fulfill your purpose. (Ephesians 2:10)

Jesus Christ is coming again!  The Bible tells us Jesus is returning for those that have put their faith in him.  Though we don't know the day it is our hope and promise we look forward to and share with others. (2 Peter 3:12)

(I Thessolonians 4: 16-17)
